The City will continue to work collecting debris. If you have a bulk item to pick up, please call Martha Bootle at City Hall to schedule a pickup: 843-513-1831 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Charleston County has provided guidance on debris removal on their website: https://www.charlestoncounty.org/departments/emergency-management/hurricane.php#debris
Please remember to use only licensed contractors and pull permits for all work: https://www.cityoffollybeach.com/city-departments-services/building-planning-and-business-licenses/building-permits-and-inspections/.
Making a FEMA Claim
Our area has not yet been approved for FEMA Assistance. This declaration cannot occur until damage reports are in.
Charleston County is now collecting information on damage in order to submit to FEMA. It is very important that you submit any Irma related damage here: https://www.crisistrack.com/public/charlestonSC/citizenRequest.html
If our area is been approved for FEMA assistance, any homeowner that has had flood damage can report a claim to FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). To make a claim one can either apply online at: http://www.disasterassistance.gov/ (when asked to choose a disaster, type in “Disaster has occurred”) or call: 800-621-3362. You may also visit the Disaster Recovery Center at 3887 Leeds Avenue in North Charleston (corner of Leeds and Bridgeview).
Please be aware that you will likely be required to coordinate with your insurance company if the property/damage is insured. If denied coverage, we recommend that you ask FEMA for reasoning and consider appealing the decision.
If denied, SBA loans will be available for businesses and individuals. If you receive a SBA packet from FEMA, you must complete it for your claim to be processed. In a disaster, SBA loans are available to businesses and individuals. Please do not disregard this packet or your FEMA claim will be terminated.
