Third Block of W. Ashley Ave Shadow Race Park

Shadow Race park is the City’s most recently developed space. It is a unique and peaceful park that encourages calm activities and programs. Activities such as lady bug releases, bird watchIng, walking, relaxing and reading a book on the pergola benches, contemplating the history of the battery that is on the grounds, and enjoying the landscaping are all possibilities for your enjoyment at this park. The landscaping has chosen plantings and fixtures meant to draw in unique local wildlife. Specifically, selected hardscapes such as bat, bee, lady bug, and bird houses are weaved throughout the grounds with a pergola and benches.

500 W. Cooper St. Wave Watch Playground

Wave Watch Playground is located at West 5th Street and West Cooper Avenue and contains approximately 4,900 square feet of park surrounded on all sides by a tall wooden fence. The playground is for children under age 13. It has a “surfing” theme with several surfboards attached along the fence and a large lifeguard stand equipped with toddler slides and a tubular slide for older children. There are baby and children swings, spinner seats, a small bouncer, all shaded by a large tree in the center of the play area. There is also a gazebo (where you can hold a birthday party or get together), two nice bench swings for adults to relax, and two large picnic tables. A water bottle refill station and a restroom have recently been added by the Parks and Recreation Board.
